Buffelsvallei Guesthouse, Liaise with History. The Family of P.J. De Wet built the first pioneer house on the little hill just above the springs in 1828. It was the first house on the Eastern Cape side of the Orange River. In 1849 the town was promulgated and set on the original farm of Buffelsvallei. The family kept 8000 acres of land and an eighth of the springs water flow, the foundations of the water mill erected by De Wet on the furrow from the springs can still be seen today. The present homestead which was built in 1889 by Pieter's youngest son David and then was taken into custody of the De Wet Family trust in 1970 and was converted into the De Wet Museum. |
